The first cloud-based RFID tag encoding and logging solution

Date: 2023-01-06

RFID register in a cloudOur trusted partners Loftware and SATO recently announced the introduction of the first-to-market cloud-based solution for RFID label encoding and logging. It allows manufacturers of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, luxury goods, and more to meet the most stringent requirements for traceability, brand authenticity and verification.

The innovative solution uses SATO RFID printers, labels, and Loftware's NiceLabel Cloud software. It works by registering the Electronic Product Code (EPC) and unique label identifier for each encoded tag, thus facilitating “closed-loop” tagging. By registering the EPC and unique ID to the NiceLabel Cloud database, SATO’s solution automatically makes and saves a unique record of every label after encoding and permits consumers to identify exactly which manufacturing base, country, and printer it originated from.

As well as central information management, this additional level of automation removes the likelihood of counterfeits. In the European Union, United States, Japan, China, and more, a growing number of medical items must have a unique device ID number (UDI) so that they can be accurately identified.

Serialization is a tool of critical importance for regulators in many different parts of the world in order to prove the originality of pharmaceutical products. It also enables workers and manufacturers to trace every single item back to where it originated from. This is significant especially for supply chain visibility and identifying whether a product is authentic or counterfeit.

Exposing counterfeit products is also very important for companies as they seek to verify the authenticity of their items. Ingenuine products are a risk to e-commerce, consumers, manufacturers, and brands alike. The worldwide anti-counterfeiting packaging industry is projected to expand by 45% between the years 2018 and 2026.

As of December 2022, the SATO CT4-LX desktop label printer and CL4/6NX Plus industrial printers can be used with the SATO and Loftware NiceLabel Cloud RFID label encoding and logging solution.
